The Kids North Face Denali Jacket – A Timeless Treasure in Comfort and Quality

When you think The North Face for kids, it’s safe to assume you’re getting a high quality product that will last for years.  The North Face Denali Jacket continues that tradition.  This kid’s North Face fleece is the perfect amount of warmth for cold weather.  Made from 300 weight Polartec Fleece, it’s the heaviest and highest quality fleece jacket for kids out there.  It’s also coated with a water repellent finish to help fight off those pesky raindrops.  The Kids North Face Denali Jacket won’t pile and its timeless nature means your kid will be wearing it for years.  The nylon overlay around the torso, shoulders and elbows helps withstand wear and tear where you need it.   As if you needed any additional reason to go with a North Face Denali, it’s also made with over 77% recycled content to help divert waste from landfills.

North Face Boys Denali Jacket

I remember getting my first North Face Denali Jacket as a teen and I still wear that same one to this day. I’ve put it through my own tests of wear year after year and its quality holds true.  The best part is, no matter what color your kid demands, you can find it in the North Face Denali Jacket.

New Arrival: Volcom Snow

Who: Volcom Outerwear

What: An outerwear brand known for pushing the limits with bold prints, loud colors, and no intention of following the rules.  Volcom embodies the marriage of creativity, fashion and functionality.  Every piece in their snow line is a stylish look overlaid with pure athletic performance.

Features Worth Talking About: With athletic performance at their core, Volcom’s outerwear is crammed full of features to keep kids riding no matter what the conditions.  Each of their jackets and pants come with their patented zip-tech jacket-to-pant interface that allows you to zip the powder skirt of any Volcom Jacket to any Volcom Pant eliminating the possibility of snow down the pants.  In addition to keeping everything tight and locked together, this feature goes a long way toward keeping you warm and dry.  The majority of the line also features Grow-Tech functionality which allows you to add additional length (1-2 inches) in both the jackets and pants making your Volcom outerwear grow with your child.  Volcom’s Critical Taped Seams prevent water from penetrating through the seams, even in the wettest conditions.  The Volcom Mission Insulated Jacket comes with Volcom’s Face-Tech, an integrated face mask that can easily be pulled overhead without unzipping the jacket.  The fleece and mesh mask clips onto the hood of the jacket and offers protection and breathability, detach the mask and wash separately when needed.

How Much: Volcom’s outerwear jackets range from $120 to $200 this season, offering options for kids who need the most technical outerwear as well as kids looking for an affordable  jacket without all of the bells and whistles. The Volcom Blast Down Puff Jacket comes in as Volcom’s top of the line jacket this season.  This baby is packed full of Volcom’s best features; 230 fill power down, breathable lining system, critically taped seams, adjustable powder skirt, zip-tech jacket-to-pant interface, and their youth safe cinch hood system. Volcom’s Station Insulated Jacket sits in the middle of the pack at $160 with many of the same features as the Volcom Blast Down minus the added warmth of  down (120g Polyfill synthetic instead) this is a great jacket for kids who needs to stay dry and warm but don’t need the extra insulation of a down jacket.  The Volcom Mars Insulated Jacket is the lightest option of Volcom jackets this season but this piece still offers some key features; adjustable hood, adjustable drawcord hem & powder skirt, and zip-tech jacket-to-pant interface.  The Mars Insulated Jacket has 80g of Polyfill synthetic insulation offering a barrier from wind and snow but if you are going to be in a really cold climate, this one won’t provide the same amount of warmth as other jackets in the line.

Volcom outerwear pants  are available in several styles this season and range in price from $100 to $150.  The Trippert Insulated Pant and Girls Kicks Insulated Pant are the top of the line at $150.  These pants have a modern, straight fit with 80gm of Poly fill insulation,  a breathable lining system, critical taped seams, grow-tech (hopefully allowing two years of wear), fleece lined seat and knees, zipper vents, and a boot gaitor with lace hook.  Volcom’s Module Insulated Pant is the least expensive of the three at $100 with the same 80gm low-loft insulation but without all extra features like the fleece lined seat and knees or grow-tech features. The Girls Tweet Insulated Pant is the least expensive option in the girls line that still offers great insulation with a 80g fill and basic features like the growtech, boot gaitors, and hand warmer pockets.

Great news for girls! Volcom introduced their first line of girls snow gear this winter. The girls line offers the same great features you see in the boys jackets like ziptech, growtech and helmet compatible hoods. The girls Penny Insulated Jacket is similar to the boys Genus Jacket but with fun front pocket detailing and added studs on the side pockets. The Poppins Insulated Jacket has a warm fill of 140g to keep it toasty and a sweet all over print by featured artist Jamie Lynn.

Shopping Tips: Volcom outerwear runs true to size but with a slightly slim cut, keep this in mind when you are selecting sizes.  The Zip-Tech feature is unique to Volcom, if you are looking to take advantage of this feature be sure to purchase both a Volcom jacket and pant.

Top Pin: Our Favorite Pinterest Board This Month

It’s October, my favorite month of the year. This is only month where I unabashedly eat candy corn till my teeth ache and attempt to throw pumpkin into anything I cook. Pinterest provides a treasure trove for the pumpkin obsessed. Decorations, recipes, spooky carving ideas- It’s all there.

You can go for the pumpkin marathon meal with our favorite recipes. First, start the day of with some orange colored pancakes, roll into lunch with the comfort food staple mac and cheese meets Halloween’s favorite vegetable, and finally finish the day off with a refined take on the fall superstar with pumpkin ravioli and cheesecake bites. There are also fantastic ideas for taking the classic Jack O Lantern to a whole new artistic level. If you want to spice up your pumpkin carving routine, try incorporating elements of paint or fabric. Great ideas abound for decorating your house with pumpkins big or small.

Bottom Line: Don’t miss out on our favorite board this month: Pumpkined!

The Essential Outdoor Items- 30% Off Patagonia’s Best

Patagonia Sale

Patagonia is the brand that I never hesitate to recommend. Too often these days, I find myself being disappointed by shoddy manufacturing, thoughtless design and products that can barely last a season. Then I purchase something from Patagonia and I am again reminded how much I appreciate a company that understand creating a superior product. I still wear Capilene long underwear from 6 years ago. My down sweater is my winter staple. Being able to pass this type of quality down to the kids in my life makes it even better.

To leave the shivers behind this winter, I’ve chosen a few of our favorite Patagonia items. I recommend using Patagonia to layer up for any season. The boys long underwear Capilene top  and girls long underwear Capilene top are great base layers. You can never go wrong with a kids down vest that can be thrown over top a long sleeve shirt or bundle up under a winter jacket. Patagonia’s outwear jackets like the Girls Snowflyer Jacket and the Little Boys Snow Otter Snowsuit are durable and can withstand the dropping temperatures.

Oh, and did I fail to mention that we are running a 30% SALE on our top Patagonia picks?  Don’t miss out on this awesome deal! Sale Ends Oct 25, 2012.

Featured Designer: Fjällräven

Fjällräven began 50 years ago in Sweden making a framed backpack design that carried loads comfortably. This innovation helped make the outdoors accessible to a whole new generation of people and launched a movement to protect wild places.

30 years have passed since Fjällräven produced the first Kånken but the backpack remains true to it’s original style. The Kånken’s special textile, Vinylon F,  is waterproof and can withstand the wear of each day’s adventure. The stylish design and classic feel has made it a top seller for J Crew and Barneys.

We love the bright colors and the classic Swedish design. Fjallraven’s also produces some great packs that are laptop compatible. This makes for a great laptop bag that is  both functional and stylish. Check out our favorite colors and styles from the teal in the Kanken, the red No. 21 Rucksack and  the 15 inch Laptop Pack in purple. For school, day trips, or an adventure into the woods, the Kånken makes a lifelong companion for kids.

Pssst… Bet you didn’t know that Fjällräven means arctic fox in Swedish.
